Representantes das maiores marcas globais, empresas marítimas e as agências policiais dos Estados Unidos da América reuniram em Washington DC a 3 de Abril para determinar o modo como poderão trabalhar conjuntamente para combater o transporte marítimo de bens contrafeitos.
As partes reuniram em Washington DC enquanto passo natural na colaboração em vigor dos signatários da “Declaration of Intent to stop the Maritime transport of counterfeits” (DOI) – um esforço conjunto entre os membros chave da indústria de transporte marítimo global, proprietários de marcas e agências policiais para trabalhar em conjunto para prevenir o transporte de bens contrafeitos em navios de carga.
“Our meeting with US law enforcement at the headquarters of the IPR Centre is hugely significant as it brings on-board a key stakeholder in the successful collaboration between brand owners, vessel operators and freight forwarders who have come together under the DOI,” comenta Sophie Peresson, Diretora da iniciativa da CCI, Business Action to Stop Counterfeiting and Piracy (BASCAP). “We have already achieved a lot developing best practices aimed at helping companies prevent the maritime shipment of counterfeits and which fit into companies’ supply chain procedures. Working with law enforcement will bring this work to another dimension.”
Steven McLoughlin, representante da Philip Morris International e co-Presidente do grupo dos proprietários de marcas dos signatários do DOI, afirma que: “Public private partnerships are key to successfully fight illicit trade globally and this event has allowed meaningful discussions with US law enforcement on joint operations and strategies for maritime operators, brand owners and the authorities to work together, including on effective risk profiling.”
Michael Jul Hansen, representante da Maersk e co-Presidente do grupo dos operadores marítimos signatários do DOI, comenta que: “We had very concrete and successful discussions with law enforcement, including officials from the Customs and Border Protection, Federal Maritime Commission and Homeland Security Investigations on how we can work together to prevent the transportation of counterfeits by ships and we are very pleased to be working with these extremely progressive agencies.”
Este evento em Washington contou ainda com a FONASBA – uma associação de agentes e corretores de navios – enquanto novo signatário marítimo do DOI. A entrada desta entidade leva à inclusão de um novo nível na cadeia de fornecimento no trabalho que está a ser desenvolvido pelo grupo signatário para prevenir criminosos de explorar a cadeira de fornecimento marítima no transporte de contrafações.
Jonathan C Williams, General Manager da FONASBA, afirma que a “FONASBA is very pleased and proud to be joining other maritime transport industry professional as signatories to the BASCAP Declaration of Intent to stop the maritime trade in counterfeit goods. FONASBA’s ship agent members in 62 countries play a key role in managing the ship/port interface and also the movement of cargo to and from the port. We are therefore keen to bring our expertise and knowledge of these vital links in the maritime transport chain to the discussions and actions within BASCAP and to add value to the work already being undertaken by the group.”
Em linha com a visão da ICC de capacitar as empresas para que assegurem a paz, prosperidade e oportunidades para todos, o BASCAP trabalha para dar a conhecer os danos económicos e sociais da contrafação e da pirataria, que em 2017 aumentou para 3.3% do comércio global, apesar de uma descida relativa no comércio globalmente considerado.
